Stages of Growth
Microgreens are some of the fastest growing foods on earth for the amount of nutrition they offer. Here’s an illustrated timeline of the growth stages from seed to harvest.
Day 1
Just your average Sunflower seed. Give it some water, leave it in darkness, and the germination process begins.
Day 3
Cotyledon, or the leaves formed in the embryo of the seed, begin to break through the hull.
Day 5
The embryonic leaves have separated and grown a few centimeters. Roots appear small and white, sometimes fuzzy.
Day 7
Growth continues upward while roots develop deeper and begin to spread out in search of water and nutrients.
Day 10-14
Our Sunflower seedling is quickly maturing, growing nearly an inch each day. True leaves will begin to develop in the next few days, at which point this is no longer a microgreen and begins to rely on finding its nutrients from the outside world. Now is the perfect time to harvest, while flavor is ripe and nutrients are most dense!
